Ryan Smith returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown Friday to lead the Bishop Gorman High football team past hostCimarron-Memorial, 54-0.
“Our kids played really well,” Gorman coach Tony Sanchez said. “The opening kickoff shocked (Cimarron) a little and ignited a spark with our guys.”
Smith added a receiving touchdown from Anu Solomon, who also threw a scoring strike to Robert Stanley.
Nate Starks added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Gaels (5-1, 2-0 Southwest) and Justin Sweet scored on his lone rushing attempt.
Defensively, Dalton Baker had an interception return of about 35 yards for a touchdown. Gorman led 51-0 at halftime to force a running clock for the second half, where Kline Fielden scored the Gaels’ lone points on a field goal.
